چکیده

We prove that the Farrell-Jones assembly map for connective algebraic K-theory is rationally injective, under mild homological finiteness conditions on the group and assuming that a weak version of the Leopoldt-Schneider conjecture holds for cyclotomic fields. This generalizes a result of Bökstedt, Hsiang, and Madsen, and leads to a concrete description of a large direct summand of Kn(Z[G])⊗Z Q in terms of group homology. In many cases the number theoretic conjectures are true, so we obtain rational injectivity results about assembly maps, in particular for Whitehead groups, under finiteness assumptions on the group only. The proof uses the cyclotomic trace map to topological cyclic homology, Bökstedt-Hsiang-Madsen’s functor C, and new general injectivity results about the assembly maps for topological Hochschild homology and C.

The Geometry of the Cyclotomic Trace

We provide a new construction of the topological cyclic homology TC(C) of any spectrally-enriched ∞-category C, which affords a precise algebro-geometric interpretation of the cyclotomic trace map K(X) → TC(X) from algebraic K-theory to topological cyclic homology for any scheme X. This construction rests on a new identification of the cyclotomic structure on THH(C), which we find to be a conse...

Polynomial Time Reduction from Approximate Shortest Vector Problem to Principal Ideal Problem for Lattices in Some Cyclotomic Rings

Many cryptographic schemes have been established based on the hardness of lattice problems. For the asymptotic efficiency, ideal lattices in the ring of cyclotomic integers are suggested to be used in most such schemes. On the other hand in computational algebraic number theory one of the main problem is the principal ideal problem (PIP). Its goal is to find a generator of any principal ideal i...

Nontrivial Galois module structure of cyclotomic fields

We say a tame Galois field extension L/K with Galois group G has trivial Galois module structure if the rings of integers have the property that OL is a free OK [G]-module. The work of Greither, Replogle, Rubin, and Srivastav shows that for each algebraic number field other than the rational numbers there will exist infinitely many primes l so that for each there is a tame Galois field extensio...

Algebra Oral Qualifying Exam Syllabus

algebra is the study of fundamental algebraic structures that occur throughout mathematics: groups, rings, modules, categories, and fields—as well as maps between them. A solid grasp of algebra can be useful to students of all mathematical stripes, and accordingly the suggested syllabus is a “strong core plus more” model: a student preparing for an oral qualifying exam in algebra should (1) fee...

Rings of Singularities

This paper is a slightly revised version of an introduction into singularity theory corresponding to a series of lectures given at the ``Advanced School and Conference on homological and geometrical methods in representation theory'' at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Miramare - Trieste, Italy, 11-29 January 2010. We show how to associate to a triple of posit...
